Telemedicine

Beginning in 2009 the NVHA began the development of a regional telemedicine support network to help the NVHA members manage critical care and trauma surge capacity during a major emergency.  The system design includes a mobile video cart, called an eCare Mobile, which has been deployed to each NVHA hospital emergency room.  Clinicians from the NVHA member hospitals can use these carts to enable 2-way video between their hospital and the Regional Hospital Coordinating Center (RHCC) / Inova eICU – where they can receive consultation and decision support from an Emergency Medicine physician from the Level I trauma center at Inova Fairfax Hospital.  The system also allows the NVHA members to receive remote video consultation and patient assessment to be performed by a trauma surgeons or pediatric intensivists at Invoa Fairfax Hospital.
